Best Farming Spot
  • Radiant Garden – Cave of Remembrance: Depths

The best place to farm Serenity Gems is to farm Mad Bumpers in the Cave of Remembrance: Depths.

The Depths are the first area you get to in the caves and require the High Jump LV2, earned from leveling up Sora’s Valor Drive Form. The Cave of Remembrance opens up after meeting Sephiroth during the Radiant Garden defense.

Here’s the optimal route:

Go all the way to the bottom of the giant cave and fight the Mad Bumpers that spawn here. After you fight all ten or so that appear, head back out to the Postern and use the save point to hit the world map so you can rinse and repeat.

You can also head deeper into the Caves to the Engine Chamber and battle Reckless Heartless, but this requires not only a higher level (Reckless are tough cookies), but also LV3 of all of Sora’s Drive moment abilities (High Jump, Air Dodge, and Quick Run).

Let’s take a closer look at both methods (and why fighting Mad Bumpers is easier).

Mad Bumpers in the Depths

Cars with teeth!? This is the Mad Bumper.

Like all automobile-based Heartless, the Mad Bumpers can be tricky to tackle.

The move they use the most is their terrible peel-out, which deals lots of damage and renders them invincible for the duration.

It’s best to be aggressive when a Mad Bumper enters the field.

Make them your number one priority. Hit them hard with magic like Thunder and lay out strong keyblade combos with finishers like Explosion.

The Reflect spell is invaluable here, too.

If a Bumper hits your Reflect, the spell will explode and deal large damage to it even if it’s peeling out. It also has the bonus effect of damaging other nearby Heartless.

If it comes to it, using Trinity Limit is a good tactic too. And don’t forget your Drive forms!

Use all the tools available and you’ll get your gems in no time flat.

Reckless in the Engine Chamber

How Reckless / KH2FM
How Reckless!

Once you make your way to the inner Engine Chamber, you can fight Reckless Heartless.

They can give any underleveled or unprepared player a real run for their munny.

Be prepared to use a lot of Magnet, Reflect, and Curative spells.

Also, meet them in the air.

And be aggressive.

Use a Keyblade that has a good length and add as many Air Combo Plus abilities as you can.

The hardest part about fighting Reckless isn’t necessarily fighting them, it’s dealing with the terrain while doing so.

Reckless are tough, but the Engine Chamber is full of knock-back Steam busts and moving floors.

It can get really disorientating really fast, so you have to keep on your toes.

Practice is the key here.

You have to learn both the area and how to use it.

What makes it worse is that rarely will you just be fighting a Reckless. There’s always going to be another Heartless or two around.

Using Serenity Gems

Synthesis with Serenity Gems / KH2FM
Synthesis with Serenity Gems

You’ll need 17 Serenity Gems to make one of everything that requires them via synthesis.

However, since the items they can make are so good, you’ll probably want more gems than just the required 17.

Serenity Gems, like all Serenity goods, are added as an extra ingredient to upgrade the item.

Elixirs, for example, turn into Megalixirs.

However, Serenity Gems differ in that there are recipes that require them as a primary ingredient.
