Items play a less vital role in Birth by Sleep than they do in previous installments of the series. Furthermore, they are not the same Items that have been included in past Kingdom Hearts titles either. Potions and Ethers and Items of that nature are now considered Item Commands (a division of Attack Commands) rather than regular Items, and are therefore included under the Attack Commands pages in the Birth by Sleep drop-down menu. The Items listed below include Key Items and Other Items, which can be collected throughout the game. These Items don’t necessarily serve a battle-applicable function, but are still essential to progressing through the game.
Key Items
Key Items are collectable Items that don’t exactly serve a direct purpose, but are simply Items added to your inventory as certain events in story unfold.

Other Items
Other Items include various kinds of Items that can be acquired and used for a one-time effect throughout the game. Duplicates of each Other Item can be collected, but each Item in this category is gone forever when used unless replaced with more. Other Items can be acquired in all stories.
