Best Farming Spot
  • Beast’s Castle – Secret Passage

The best way to farm Power Shards is to head to Beast’s Castle and fight Large Bodies.

Enter here and head into the Undercroft / KH2FM
Enter here and head into the Undercroft.

Here’s the ideal farming route:

Enter from the Dungeon save point, run through the attached Undercroft and into the Secret Passage. Running through this passage will have you fight four Large Bodies.

Once done, you can run back to the Dungeon save point to exit the world, re-enter and go again.

Alternatively, you can head to the Hinterlands in Halloween Town and fight Creeper Plants but they have a lower drop rate and spawn rate in general.

Large Bodies

They have large bodies, you see / KH2FM
They have large bodies, you see.

Large Bodies are the big bulky baddies in Kingdom Hearts.

These rotund fellas have been around since Sora’s start and don’t seem like they’re going anywhere anytime soon.

Attacking a Large Body from the front is a fool’s errand.

Physical attacks are severely diminished from the front.

If you’re going in keyblade swinging then make sure you’re aiming for the back.

Of course, getting behind them can be a trick in and of itself. AOE attacks like Sora’s Vicinity Break and Explosion can hit the back even when used from the front side and spells like Magnet and Reflect can also work wonders.

Guard then Slam / KH2FM
Guard then Slam!

Your best bet is to just wait until they start sliding around on their Large Bodies.

This opens a Reaction Command that can deal tremendous damage to them, maybe even one-hit KO, if you’re lucky.

Another acceptable strat is to just blast them with magic.

Get up close with Blizzards and Fires–their fronts are immune to physical but that ain’t what magic is.

All in all, Large Bodies can (and probably will) be a pain to deal with.

They like to appear in pairs, too, which doesn’t help.

Try to stay in the air until you have a clear shot and then turn them into Large Dead Bodies.

Creeper Plant

Creepers? Check. Plants? Check / KH2FM
Creepers? Check. Plants? Check.

Creeper Plants can be found exclusively in Halloween Town (and in certain Coliseum battles, though they can’t drop stuff there).

The best place to find them is in the Hinterlands, one screen back from the Yuletide Hill save point.

Unlike most other Heartless, these wicked roots don’t move.

They’re plants, after all, and are stuck in the ground.

This doesn’t mean they don’t attack. Of course not!

Creeper Plants spit (what else) seeds.

They can fire rapid-fire shots or a three-seed spread. This is annoying by itself, but when multiplied by two or three they can be downright frustrating. They often appear with other Heartless as well, just adding to the chaos.

Ravage their Roots / KH2FM
Ravage their Roots!

If you get too close, they spike you with a pointy root.

This can easily knock Sora around if it’s a clean hit, so be prepared for it.

Be quick with the Reaction Command though and you can uproot the beast and cause a fairly powerful AOE attack that should finish the job.

Reflect and Guard can knock the Creeper’s seeds back, but this requires a bit of practiced timing and can be difficult in the heat of battle.

Your best bet is to stay in the air as you approach them and come down from above.

Using Power Shards

A Mega-Potion, Kupo / KH2FM
A Mega-Potion, Kupo!

You only need 4 Power Shards to make one of everything that requires them. It shouldn’t take you very long to earn this amount, no matter which heartless you choose to farm.

Mega-Potions and Mega-Ethers are Mega-Useful so you’ll probably want to spend a little extra time and get a few more Shards than just the bare minimum.
