The best way to farm Lightning Gems is by defeating Armored Knights in Hollow Bastion. Here’s the best route to follow:
Enter the world from the Postern save point and head north to the Restoration Site. Run up and down this area clearing Armored knights, then returning to the world map from the Posturn to reset.
You will have fought at least a dozen Armored Knights in that route.
Alternatively, you could head to the other areas of Hollow Bastion to fight Surveillance Robots, but they’re nowhere near as plentiful and don’t have as well-defined a spawn area.
So the Restoration Site Armored Knights are your best bet, easily.
Armored Knights
Armored Knights don’t have a lot going for them.
They don’t have a lot of HP or defense and can’t really deal a lot of damage. Their sole strength is their numbers–rare is it they appear alone.
Most of the time, when they appear it’s in a circle around Sora.
You can take this opportunity to either cast a spell like Firaga or Magnet to quickly wipe them out or start swinging and hope for a chance to use their Reaction Command.
The Armored Knights’ Reaction Command is ‘Rising Sun’, which causes Sora to attack in straight lines up to five times.
This can damage anything, not just Armored Knights.
With how wishy-washy the Knights are, it’s a pretty good bet that once you get this command the fight is pretty much over.
Surveillance Robots
Just the same as the Armored Knights, the heartless aren’t too much trouble to defeat.
Basic attacks can topple them fairly easily and using magic like Thunder or Blizzard can do it even faster.
It’s worth keeping a Surveillance Robot around for a bit though, just because their Reaction Command is so cool.
Once you use the initial Snag command, you can chain it into the Sparkling Ray, which is a super hyper beam that can decimate just about everything around.
Keep in mind that the Sparkling Ray doesn’t actually damage the Robot itself, so you’ll have to deal with it eventually.
Still, they’re almost a trivial enemy to defeat.
Using Lightning Gems
You only need 2 Gems to make one of everything that requires them via synthesis. That’s pretty easy-peasy. You’ll get what you need in no time, so go get it!
