The only place to get Frost Crystals is to defeat Living Bones in the Pridelands. They are the only enemy in the game that drops them.
The best place to find and farm Living Bones is in the Elephant Graveyard. Here’s the best route:
Enter the Pridelands at the Gorge save point and head north into the Graveyard. Once there, do a lap of the place, running up and around the backside, then return to the save point to exit to the world map and reset everything.
This route will have you fight about five Living Bones.
You can find them in other places in the Pridelands, but the Elephant Graveyard has the highest concentration of them.
Living Bones
There are two varieties of Living Bone: one with a Shaman rider and one without.
Both have the same drop rates for Frost Crystals and the only difference is what attacks they’ll use.
For the most part the Living Bones you encounter in the Elephant Graveyard will be without the Shaman.
This is the better outcome, as you’ll only have to deal with the Bone’s moveset only.
Living Bones sweep their tails around in a minor cleave. This is their basic attack and it’s easy to avoid.
They also jump into the air and do a body slam back to the ground. This creates a shockwave that can knock Sora back and stun him. Staying in the air with the Bone can prevent this.
Its Wisp attack puts a circle of ghost fires around Sora, which speed up and then close in to deal damage. You can use the Reaction Command ‘Grand Cross’ to throw them at a nearby foe, which is both awesome and cool at the same time. It can be easy to miss the window, though, so be prepared!
Finally, don’t pass up the opportunity to ride the Living Bone.
You’ll occasionally get a Rodeo Reaction Command that allows you to take the beast for a spin and deal good damage. This is completely unnecessary (it’s probably easier to just defeat it with the keyblade) but a lot of fun if you can pull it off.
Using Frost Crystals
You’ll need 6 Frost Crystals to make one of everything that requires them.
This honestly isn’t too bad a grind.
The drop rate is fairly high and the Living Bones are plentiful. Plus, you’ll make some genuinely helpful items –you can’t go wrong!
