Best Farming Spot
  • Beast’s Castle – Undercroft
  • Land of Dragons – Imperial Square

The best place to farm for Energy Shards is to farm Gargoyle Knights and Warriors in the Undercroft in Beast’s Castle.

You can fight half a dozen there easily with just one go of the area, and then you can warp back to the world map from the next room to re-land and repeat it over again.

Alternatively, you can head to the Imperial Square in Land of Dragons and fight Night Walkers and Bolt Towers. They have the same drop rate, but getting to them is a few screens from a save point and there aren’t quite as many as the Gargoyles.

Let’s take a look at both paths and the pros & cons of each farming route.

Beast’s Castle – Undercroft

Undercroft with things already popping off.

Enter the world from the Dungeon save point and head right into the Undercroft.

As soon as you enter you’ll be attacked by a whole swarm of Gargoyle Knights and Warriors.

Clear the room and use the Dungeon save point to reset the world via the world map.

Using a Magnet or Reflect spell right away is a great way to very quickly clear the Gargoyle chaff.

If you’re feeling spicy, you can switch to Limit or Wisdom Form and sweep up, since you can get back to the save point before the Limit Bar depletes–meaning you can loop this infinitely.

Land of Dragons – Imperial Square

More of a rectangle, really / KH2FM
More of a rectangle, really.

Enter the world from the Throne Room save point and head out through the Antechamber, past the zone with the Mushroom, and finally into the Imperial Square.

Bolt Tower flanked by Nightwalkers. What a game / KH2FM

Clear out the area using raw power and the occasional Magnet spell and double back to the Throne Room.

The drop rate on Energy Shards is about the same as Gargoyles, so it all depends on which you’d like to fight and how important your time is to you.

Using Energy Shards

Add the shard, cut in half, Kupo / KH2FM

Energy Shards (and Energy materials in general) are the only synthesis materials that aren’t directly used in crafting recipes.

Instead, you add Energy items into any of your recipes to cut the number of ingredients in half.

This is extremely useful, especially in the beginning of the game where you might want to synthesize a lot of items to help you complete the story, but where you may not have farmed enough drops to work through the synthesis lists quickly.

Note that you probably won’t need a lot of Energy Shards in a typical playthrough though. So farming for them won’t take too long, if any time at all.
