KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days takes a break from driving the KINGDOM HEARTS narrative forward, and instead travels back to fill in key details about the mysterious Organization XIII featured in KINGDOM HEARTS Chain of Memories and KINGDOM HEARTS II.

Players control Roxas this time around, rather than Sora, and follow his time as a member of the Organization. Rather than visiting Disney worlds freely as the story progresses, players select from a series of objective-based missions. Also new this time around is the inclusion of the Panel System, which allows players to control everything from Abilities, to leveling up, to how many casts of a certain Magic spell you have — all by installing tetris-style blocks on the Panel Grid. If you can fit the piece in, you can use the skill or equipment during your missions!

Lastly, the game also included multiplayer with 19 playable characters! Players could team up with friends to play through missions cooperatively, or steal points and objectives out from underneath each other!

KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days was re-released as part of the KINGDOM HEARTS HD I.5 ReMIX Collection for the PlayStation 3.  The game had fully remastered HD graphics, a handful of re-orchestrated tracks, and PlayStation Trophy support.

Unlike KINGDOM HEARTS Final Mix and KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories, KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days was included in this bundle only as an HD cinematic. Players could not play the game as they had been able to on the Nintendo DS, but rather, they could sit through a nearly 3-hour retelling of the game's important events by watching newly recreated cutscenes from the game.

KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days was released again just a few years later as part of the KINGDOM HEARTS HD I.5 + II.5 ReMIX Collection for the PlayStation 4.  This collection featured all of the games from KINGDOM HEARTS HD I.5 ReMIX, as well as those found in KINGDOM HEARTS HD II.5 ReMIX (both originally for the PlayStation 3).

Like its inclusion in the KINGDOM HEARTS HD I.5 ReMIX collection for PlayStation 3, KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days was only included in this new bundle in the form of an HD cinematic. However, this time around, PlayStation Trophy support for the game was removed, and an extended version of one of the scenes was patched in.

KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days was also included in the KINGDOM HEARTS ~The Story So Far~ collection for PlayStation 4.

This collection was a 2-disc set that came with KINGDOM HEARTS HD I.5 + II.5 ReMIX as well as KINGDOM HEARTS HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue. There was nothing different about this iteration of KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days compared to its inclusion in the KINGDOM HEARTS HD I.5 + II.5 ReMIX collection; it was simply a repackaged collection to include every KINGDOM HEARTS remastered title in one bundle.
