358/2 Days > Overview
Unlike every other game released under the Kingdom Hearts franchise, Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (said: 3 5 8 days over 2) was the first game in the series to actually go back into the existing story to fill in details. It was also the first game in the series to not feature Sora as the main character. This time, players got to see the world through the eyes of Roxas and relive his days as a member of Organization XIII. 358/2 Days actually takes place simultaneously with Chain of Memories within the Kingdom Hearts time line, and sets events up for the beginning of Kingdom Hearts II.
The game features all kinds of new systems that weren’t present in previous installments of the franchise, like the newly introduced Panel System. Players could assemble Panel Boards, similar to how they assembled Decks in Chain of Memories, to give Roxas new Magic, Abilities, Items, and Weapons. Panels could be changed at any time from the Grey Area, which functioned as a central hub for the game. Unlike the continually flowing story lines of games past, 358/2 Days story progressed through mission-based gameplay. The game also was the first in the series to feature an up to four-player, wireless multiplayer over Nintendo DS Wifi. Players can control any of the members of Organization XIII, as well as Riku, Sora, King Mickey, Donald, and Goofy.
The story is relayed mostly the same way as in Chain of Memories, through the use of text bubbles, but the game also includes 19 fully-rendered cutscenes with voiceovers. All in all, Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days is a great addition to the series.
