This past weekend marked the first-ever D23 Japan Expo, and Square-Enix was present with some new announcements for the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

The first was the official confirmation of Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD ReMIX, which contain both Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix and Birth by Sleep: Final Mix as playable games, as well as the cinematic cutscenes from Re:Coded (much like 358/2 Days in KH 1.5 HD ReMIX).

Though the game does not have a definite release date yet, the game has been confirmed to be released globally on the Playstation 3 in 2014! Whether or not this means the game will be released to all regions on the same day remains to be seen, but we’re excited either way!

You can check out the official announcement trailer below, uploaded by Playstation’s official YouTube Channel.

Next up was a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts III! The trailer features a new look at some of the gameplay we’ll be getting to look forward to, and it also confirms that both Sora and Riku will make appearances in KH3 (whether or not Riku is a playable character has not yet been confirmed). We’ve also been teasingly told to “please look forward to seeing Roxas as well,” but again, we’re not sure about the capacity in which he will be involved in the game.

The trailer also shows off several interesting new features of gameplay, like potential summons based on Disneyland Theme Park attractions. Supposedly there is some sort of train summon based on Disneyland’s famous Electric Light Parade. Sora also apparently has the ability to transform his Keyblade temporarily into guns to fire at enemies – another homage to Disneyland.

Lastly, the trailer features a potential battle against the Rock Titan (previous featured in Olympus Coliseum back in the original Kingdom Hearts), but this time, it appears to take place in Twilight Town. Sora is shown using some sort of “roller coaster attack” that circles the colossus and deals damage.

Sadly, the trailer has not been released publicly yet, but you can rest assured that as soon as it is, we’ll be posting it here on Destiny Islands. For more news on KH3, KH2.5, and everything Kingdom Hearts, keep it here!
